The Federal Government yesterday said the military action in the
restive Niger Delta region was targeted at halting the persistent
criminal activities.
The government however re-iterated that the window
of opportunity to return to normal life provided for them through
amnesty was still open.
The government also said in two weeks, it will come
out with comprehensive policy on modalities and conditions under which
the amnesty to the militants will be implemented.
President Umaru Yar’Adua who stated this when he
received the report from the Presidential Panel on Amnesty and
Disarmament of militants in the Niger Delta, said the military action

budget on January 1, even as it said that it will not be cajoled
into endorsing a substandard bill.
This is even as the Senate President Speaker

30 inmates still
missing in Enugu jail break

The authorities of Enugu
Prisons have continued the manhunt for 30 inmates on the Awaiting
Trial (AT) unit who escaped during Wednesday’s jail break.
About 130 out of the over
150 inmates who attempted to give themselves freedom when the jail
was broken were later re-arrested by a combined team of the
police, army, civil defence and prison officers. .

Crime Commission (EFCC) yesterday suffered a set back at the
Federal High Court, Asaba, following the absence of one of the
accused persons, Miss Udoamaka Okoronkwo in court.
A Federal High Court,
sitting in Asaba and presided over by Justice Marcel Awokolehin
had issued a bench warrant, on April 27, on Miss. Okoronkwo, to
appear before the court to answer to charges preferred against her
